BioMet fired more than 200 UK employees after moving its operations. The orthopedic device manufacturer cited economic pressure as the reason for moving locations, which may in part be buoyed by BioMet lawsuits facing the company.
BioMet Inc. manufactures the M2A Magnum metal-on-metal hip replacement, which has been found to fail at a rate much higher than expected. The defective device could cost BioMet an untold amount of money in M2A Magnum lawsuits filed by patients who suffered due to the metal hip implant.
M2A Magnum hip replacement side effects include tissue damage, joint loosening and metallosis, a type of blood poisoning caused by toxic levels of metal in the bloodstream. Many patients also required revision surgery to fix problems caused by the BioMet hip replacements.
